Sundance 2012

I can not believe this week has come to an end!  So much thought and planning has gone in to this year of Sundance and I had a great time!  Okay, so I am going to be brief right now and simply recap this year's Sundance events for you.  However, check out the Hen Movie Blog in the near future for some in depth movie reviews from this year's festival.

To recap...
  1. I saw 5 films at 4 different theaters, in 3 days, in 2 cities, with 1 new snazzy coat!
    1. Bachelorette - Super funny
    2. How to Survive a Plague - Inspiring
    3. Liberal Arts - Lovely
    4. The Words - Slightly Disappointing
    5. Predisposed - Surprisingly Great
  2. I cried in 2 films.  No ugly cries though!
  3. I was inspired to action!
  4. I was inspired to read more, to listen to classical music, to write my script and to start planning next year's trip.
Here are some pics from this year's Sundance Film Festival...

Thank you Melanie for getting all of my tickets.  I promise to be more on top of things next year!  Thank you Melanie and Peggy for being such great movie buddies!  Thank you Peggy for being a great travel companion.  Thank you Lua, Justin, Sione and Lorien for taking care of Mr. Daniel so that I could enjoy my time at Sundance this year.  Thank you Fia for letting me borrow your camera.  Thank you Melanie, Peggy, Cheryl, Laura and Grady for a weeks worth of intelligent, creative and enlightening movie dialogue!

Can't wait until next year!

The Jimmers

Daniel is half way through his Jr. Jazz Basketball Season.  His team is called the Jimmers and they are STINKING adorable.  I honestly want to squeeze all their adorable cheeks!  It's been so fun watching him play, listen to his coach and really strive to excel.  I'm a proud mama!

Sundance 2011: The Ledge

After the ASCAP Music Cafe, Melanie and I headed down to the Rose Wagner Theater in Salt Lake City for "The Ledge" starring Terrance Howard, Liv Tyler and Christopher Gorham.  The film is about a detective that finds out that his two kids are not really his, after discovering that he's sterile.  This detective is called out to talk a jumper off a ledge, shortly after getting the news.  The character development in this film is phenomenal, you really get to know the characters and are able to see such vulnerability in each person.

It was moving, again, I was crying.  Such a fantastic film and the Q & A afterwards with the films writer/director was also moving.  I can't believe what a bawl baby I was.  But this film is actually coming out in theaters this year, so keep an eye out for "The Ledge."  Here are some pics from a Q & A with the actors and director, compliments of Wire Image.

Such amazing performances!!!

Movie: Man on Wire

I watched this amazing documentary about Phillipe Petit, the man who broke into the World Trade Center Towers, rigged a high wire and walked across the two towers.  What an amazing film, I really was spell bound and in awe.  I hope you guys take the time to watch it.  If you have Netflix, you can watch it instantly!

Basket Case

Haha!  If you could only see my tear stained face right now.  Oh nothing is wrong, life is grand...I blame it on the sweetest Hallmark Film ever.  First off, you have Sam Elliot and John Corbett, add a little girl with cancer, a town who pulls together and beautiful background music and you get me...Miss Basket Case!  Anyways, the movie is called November Christmas.

Hallmark Movie + Christmas = Tear Jerker

I must add a quick note though.  I am not crying like this lady!  I mean, it was sad and I cried...okay, I cried a lot.  But really, it was worth crying about.  Little girl with cancer...come on!  The Crying Wife...puh - leeze!

Movie: Megamind

Our good friend Melanie, got Daniel and I advance screen tickets to see Megamind last Saturday!  It was so nice to see Melanie and be able to spend the morning with her.  It was also such a GREAT movie!  We got to see it in 3D on the IMAX screen at Jordans Commons, which was pretty spectacular.  The film was so great as well!  The story line was great, all the 80's inuendos made my day, the actors did a great job and Daniel loved it too!  I give this film to blue thumbs (Megamind is blue, get it??) up!!!

To keep my head from exploding...

I'm resorting to See's Candy, Justin Timberlake and Peppermint Foot Lotion!!!  I've gotten myself so far behind in my readings!!!  I have eight chapters of Business Law to read, four chapters of Human Resource Management, two chapters of Marketing and one chapter of Organizational Behavior.  Shoot me NOW!!!  I thought I'd take a mental break to vent on my blog!  Thanks for lending a listening ear!  Back to my hectic studies!

Oh and isn't this the cutest picture of Daniel?  I let him stay up to watch Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam and he only made it 20 minutes before he was OUT!!  :)

LXD

I wish I could really dance!  I watch shows like So You Think You Can Dance and Dancing With the Stars and I wish that I could Pop & Lock or Quickstep with the best of them.  Although I am rhythmically challenged, I still get my groove on.  I can't help myself.  :)

Have you heard of the LXDThe League of Extraordinary Dancers?  They are amazing and since I've found them, I wish that I could fly and defy gravity.  These dancers are amazing and HOT!  ;)  There are currently five episodes available for your viewing pleasure on http://www.hulu.com/; my favorite episodes are Robot Lovestory with hottie Madd Chadd and The Lettermakers with genius Lil' C

Please tell me if you get a chance to watch any of these, I'd be interested to know what you think of them.

The Last Airbender

Yesterday, I had promised Daniel that we would go to the theater for Toy Story 3.  When we got there, the movie was sold out and the next showing wasn't until 7 pm.  When I told him that we would have to try another night, his lip started to quiver and he said, "It's okay, I understand."  He then turned for the escalator with his head bowed.  When I caught up to him, huge tearsdrops were streaming down his face.  He had worked so hard that day and this was our big treat.  So we turned back around and walked up to the ticket booth.  I told him that we could see The Karate Kid again, The Last Airbender or...and before I could say Toy Story 3 at 7:00, his little face lit up as he said, "YEAH, The Last Airbender".  We bought our tickets and I must say, I quite liked it.  Daniel LOVED it and has been trying to bend elements since we got home.  It's not something I would've seen without Daniel, but watching it with him made it a great movie.

In a non-mommy view, if you don't like fantasy fiction and movies that seem to prep you for a trilogy - don't go to see this movie. In my opinion it's ranked with the Scorpion King and Hidalgo.

Sans Motivation

Do you ever feel like you are missing the motivation you need to accomplish your goals?  Well, lately I have felt a lack of motivation to get dressed in the mornings let alone accomplish my goals.  I decided to make it a lazy day with Daniel and here I am at the end of the day with the motivation I believe will get me moving this week.  It has not been an easy year, but it's been a growing one!

Movie Nod:  The Karate Kid was fantastic.  I'm totally being serious!  Jackie Chan's performance broke my heart and little Jaden Smith inspired me. I was in awe of the performances and that is saying a lot coming from me!  I will absolutely be seeing this movie again with Daniel while it's still in the theater and will be buying it on DVD.  I hope you all get the chance to go and see it.  Oh man, we LOVED it!

Lovely Saturday

After a busy and slightly shitty week, Daniel and I needed today to be GREAT.  And I'm so happy that it was!  Five unforgettable moments from today...

Daniel got a stylin' haircut from Mr. Claudio Aguiar.
Cupcakes from The Sweet Tooth Fairy.
Two balloons floating to the ceiling of the Sunflower Market.  (Ugh!)
The lovely morning at the Bijou Market w/ some super great friends and some super cute finds!
Chicken Nuggets + Tent in Living Room + Alice in Wonderland = Lots of Laughs!!

All About Steve

I highly recommend this! I absolutely loved Sandra Bullock in this film, she was so refreshing and HELLO Bradley Cooper was fabulously HOT! Go see it and then tell me what you think!!

Note: You know how a majority of trailers show all the funny parts and the movie is lame. Not the case here! Some of the clips in the trailer aren't even in the movie and the movie is SO funny!

2nd Note: I can not wait for Sandra Bullock's next film, The Blind Side! It's going to be a tear jerker!
