I Want to be Stephenie Meyer

I now know the answer to the question, "What do you want to be when you grow up?" My answer would be, "I want to be Stephenie Meyer." What a mind! What a gift! Now before I get carried away about my new fixation on Stephenie Meyer, I'm going to share my Twilight story. I didn't want to read the books; for fear that I would just be another bandwagon follower. So when Allison took me to see the movie, I have to admit I fell in love with the story. I picked up the book and began reading. I only made it half way through the story when I had to put the book down in order to deal with my life. Last weekend, I picked the book back up and finished it. I moved on to New Moon and finished it in two days. Then I began reading Eclipse, two and a half days later I was on to Breaking Dawn, which I finished Saturday night. Yes, I am crazy, sleep deprived and to embarrass myself further, I popped in the Twilight movie as soon as I finished the book.
Those of you who know me, know my strong belief in the power of dreams and that when you need an answer to a tough problem sometimes the answer can reveal itself in your dreams. So when I read Stephenie's story about how Twilight came to be, I was so surprised to read that it was a dream that sparked it all. To be blessed with a dream that would in essence affect so many people is a powerful thought. After finishing these books, I must say I've spent this Sunday grieving the fact that these books are now done. That these people I've come to love are, sadly, fictional.
The thing about books is that they connect you to another mind. When you watch a movie you have to guess what the character is thinking or why they think the way they do. When the movie ends you're able to walk away from it. It was a two dimensional story that may have impacted you, but two days later you've moved on to another movie, another character. In a book, you know their thoughts, their background, what drives their emotion and essentially you connect to who they are. So it's hard to believe that when you close the book, their story ends. In your mind, you believe that they are living on and part of you resents that you can't be there to live it with them, to read what their "Happily Ever After" looks like.
Its good there are no more books though, I have sadly neglected Daniel all week while I mentally moved to a small town called Forks. So I'm glad to come back to reality and be the mommy the little guy needs. But if you were to ask me what I wanted to be when I grow up, I would tell you that I want to be Stephenie Meyer. I would want the power to connect people with a beautiful story. I would want the power to spark the idea within others that true love is out there, that family is the most important thing a person can have, that you can do ANYTHING you put your mind to and that with planning, support and love you can overcome any obstacle that comes your way. If you haven't read the books, make time. It's more than some silly cult following; it's a beautiful story!

Cute Doggy

Daniel has the coolest teacher EVER, Miss Carol! When I went to pick him up today, this is what he looked like! He sang, "How much is that doggy in the window?" for me and actually agreed to pose for a couple of pictures. LOL! What a cute doggy!

Bumblebee

Have you ever been caught so off guard by something utterly hilarious that you find yourself laughing so hard? Only it's not a normal laugh or a laugh you recognize, it's an uncontrollable laugh that contains wheezing, snorts and accidental urination. One such moment snuck up on me this week and I must share!! May you read the moment and laugh as hard as I did. If you don't find it hilarious, I guess you had to be there. :)

BUMBLEBEE
Preface: Daniel wakes up at 6:00 am every morning and while I sleep or get ready for work he watches his morning cartoons.

The moment was more of a realization involving several mini moments. Daniel over the last couple of weeks has been pointing out things on the road and yelling, "Look it's Bumblebee." I of course am driving and can't look over to see the bumblebee. So, I simply respond; "Oh nice, buddy!" "Cool!" "A bumblebee, crazy!!" To which he states, "Oh yeah man, way cool!" LOL!
Then the night before his birthday we went for a little walk around the neighborhood and he, ever so cooly, looks over at this yellow car on the side of the road and says, "Hi Bumblebee." I look over at the car than at him.
"Where's the bumblebee Daniel?"
"Right there, that's Bumblebee. He's really cool!"
"Umm. . . Ok buddy."
Now fast forward to this last Wednesday morning. The two of us are sitting at the breakfast table and Daniel is watching his cartoons. All of a sudden he stands up on his chair and yells, "Go Bumblebee!" I look up at the TV to see that he's watching Transformers, then return to my bagel. I put the magazine away, go the take a shower and while I'm in getting ready to condition my hair I'm reviewing these little events. This is when I realized that all this time he's been waving and pointing at yellow cars on the road, shouting "Hey Bumblebee!" and NOT referring to little yellow and black, flying bees. I could NOT stop laughing!

Lovely Day

I had the sheer priviledge of spending the day playing with my son. What a beautiful and special day. It's hard to face the reality that I must, in fact, return to work tomorrow. I am so thankful for this person who takes pleasure in the simplest things; who just wants to talk, read stories, play transformers and give hugs. At this moment I sit here, not quite sure how to express the love I have for him and the gratitude I have for my Heavenly Father for blessing my life in this way.

Happy Birthday Lovebug!

Daniel's Birthday Party

It was a success! Daniel doesn't officially turn 5 until tomorrow, but we got to party tonight. It was all about CARS and Lightning McQueen! He didn't want a cake, he decided on chocolate cupcakes with chocolate frosting and chocolate ice cream. So I spent the day making 48 cupcakes. I have to say, they turned out pretty dang good!

Before everyone came over, Daniel and I went for a little walk. We discussed the job of being the birthday boy.

* When people come to the door, be sure to say, "Thank you for coming."
* Wait until after everyone is done singing before you blow out your birthday candles.
* After you open your gift, make sure you thank the person who gave it to you.
* No crying and/or getting mad.
* Eat all the cake and ice cream you want.

The little guy did a great job, I was super proud of him. I can't believe it's already been a year since he came from Tonga. He is truly my special little man. Tomorrow, we are going to celebrate his birthday by doing everything that he loves. So far he's asked to go to McDonald's, the library and his uncle Sione got him a kite that he is looking forward to trying out.

I am so blessed to have such a wonderful family and I am so thankful they came tonight to celebrate his special day!!
